Firms fined for poor road reinstatements

Six utility firms have been fined by the Scottish Road Works Commissioner for failing to comply with their statutory obligations regarding the quality of road surface reinstatements following works to place cables and pipes in the highway.

Spreadsheet error diagnosis for hospital opening delay

Human error in the form of an incorrect spreadsheet entry became “cemented” in the project to build the Royal Hospital for Children & Young People in Edinburgh and contributed to the facility’s delayed opening, according to a new report.

Challenge launched against planning rule changes

Legal action is being threatened by campaigners over sweeping changes to planning rules which are set to come into force next week. Campaign group ‘Rights: Community: Action’ says the government’s changes to permitted development rights and change of use are unlawful and have been brought in without proper consultation or Parliamentary debate.

Road project payments contested in court

Allocation of unpaid fees for labour on Scotland’s Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route scheme will be subject to a ‘proof before answer’, a judge in the Outer House of the Court of Session has decided after the joint venture company responsible for delivering the road construction project raised an action of ‘multiplepoinding’.
