Focus on adjudication

Part 8 of the Local Democracy, Economic Development and Construction Act 2009 (LDEDCA 2009) is set to amend Pt II of the Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act 1996 (HGCRA 1996). The LDEDCA 2009 received Royal Assent on 12 November 2009, but Pt 8, which affects construction contracts, has not yet come into force.

Civils costs cuts drive

Pre construction and early project formulation phases will be the focus of a new government drive to bring UK major infrastructure project civil engineering costs into line with EC countries. Potential savings of up to £3,000 million a year – 15 per cent of relevant spending – are to be pursued after being identified in a report from Infrastructure UK (IUK) published in late December.
