PFI principles return on aqueduct resilience scheme

A “ground breaking” new contract model which reinvents the Private Finance Initiative will be used for the first time on water company United Utilities’ Haweswater Aqueduct Resilience Programme, following consent from industry regulator Ofwat.

Fine handed to rail contractor after trench collapse

Rail infrastructure contractor VolkerRail has been fined £550,000 after a worker was buried when a trench wall collapsed on top of him during excavation work beside the railway outside Stafford station.

KPMG faces £14.4 million penalty over Carillion audits

KPMG is set to be fined £14.4 million after a disciplinary tribunal found that former employees misled the Financial Reporting Council as it inspected audits of collapsed contractor Carillion and software firm Regenersis.

Network Rail fined after serious crush injury

Network Rail has been fined £1.4 million for a health and safety breach which saw a worker crushed between the conveyor of a 25 tonne ‘Superboss’ ballast distributor and a Kubota people carrier vehicle.

Suppliers unlikely to recover losses after Roadbridge collapse

Collapsed civil engineering contractor Roadbridge UK owed debts totalling £22.5 million to hundreds of suppliers when it fell into receivership in March. These unsecured creditors are unlikely to be able to recover their losses, according to the firm’s administrator Grant Thornton.
