Strategic road network operator National Highways has given a group of its Tier 1 suppliers two weeks to outline their approach to tackling ‘economic crime’ following concern of fraud and corruption on major road schemes.

Construction boss sentenced after fatal fall from height

A construction director has been sentenced for health and safety failings which led to the death of an employee in Doune, Perthshire, who fell from height when a bus struck the mobile work elevated platform he was working on.

Investigations continue into Bow crane collapse

Investigations into the fatal collapse of a tower crane in Bow, east London which killed one local resident and injured at least four more are still ongoing two years after the incident. It is yet to be established whether any criminal offences took place in relation to the collapse.

Fatal injuries to construction workers fell by a quarter last year according to newly released figures from the Health & Safety Executive. Construction remains the industry with the highest number of deaths across the economy.
