HS2 payment practices improving

High Speed 2 (HS2) Ltd has paid 97% of its invoices within 30 days over the past year, an improvement compared to its 92% rate in 2021, according to a Freedom of Information request by magazine New Civil Engineer.

Network Rail facing criminal prosecution over derailment deaths

Network Rail is expected to enter a guilty plea when it faces criminal prosecution at the High Court in Aberdeen on 7 September for failures leading to the derailment of a train at Carmont in 2020 in which three people died.

Building safety compliance cost estimates released

Government estimates put the range of costs to be borne by the industry to comply with new building safety rules on high rise residential blocks as between £1.24 billion and £2.9 billion over 15 years. Costs to government will be an estimated additional £356 million.
