Asbestos Surveyor death leads to fines

Failure to properly maintain a switch room led to the death of a surveyor engaged in an asbestos survey, a Scottish court concluded, resulting in a fine of £80,000 for safety breaches.

‘Game-changing’ move on Project Bank Accounts

All Tier 1 contractors and Tier 2 sub-contractors will automatically be included on Project Bank Accounts (PBAs) on new contracts under new rules being introduced by National Highways. The move comes ten years after PBAs were first introduced on UK roads projects, and is being hailed by National Highways as a possible world first.

‘Sophisticated fraud’ uncovered at Keller Group

Leading geotechnical specialist Keller Group has issued a profits warning following news that two directors at its Australian business have been summarily dismissed over allegations that operating profits have been deliberately and fraudulently overstated by up to £18 million since 2019.

Admixtures suppliers merger given the go ahead

Government’s competition watchdog has accepted that two chemical admixtures suppliers can come together without causing harm to the UK construction industry. Swiss firm Sika agreed to buy German company MBCC Group in a £4.5 billion deal in November 2021. The two businesses are the largest UK suppliers of chemical admixtures, which are used in products such as concrete to control characteristics such as strength or setting time.
