Profit warnings issued by FTSE-listed construction and materials companies hit a record-equalling low in the first six months of 2022, according to new research. However this does not reflect the situation further down the supply chain, where inflation and rising costs are causing problems.

Employer defeats contractor in landmark cladding case

Martlet Homes has won a hugely significant cladding case against contractor Mulalley & Co in what is the first High Court judgment on a claim concerning fire safety defects in cladding on a high rise building since the Grenfell Tower fire.

Adjudicator’s decision enforced in £2.2m leisure complex dispute

A local council has secured more than £2.2 million in damages from contractor Allenbuild after the High Court granted a summary judgment to enforce an adjudicator’s decision relating to defects in the construction of a leisure and swimming complex, built 15 years ago.

Construction boss sentenced after fatal fall from height

A construction director has been sentenced for health and safety failings which led to the death of an employee in Doune, Perthshire, who fell from height when a bus struck the mobile work elevated platform he was working on.

Investigations continue into Bow crane collapse

Investigations into the fatal collapse of a tower crane in Bow, east London which killed one local resident and injured at least four more are still ongoing two years after the incident. It is yet to be established whether any criminal offences took place in relation to the collapse.
