Hinkley Point C hit by new delay, rising costs

The Hinkley Point C nuclear reactor will now cost nearly £50 billion at current prices compared to the project’s original estimated cost of £15 billion at 2015 prices.

Former Carillion Chief Executive fined by regulator

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has fined former Carillion Chief Executive Richard Howson £237,700 for his part in misleading statements issued by Carillion plc before it went bust.

Trial dates set for Hinkley Point C prosecutions

Trial dates have been scheduled for 17th January 2028 in the prosecution of Hinkley Point C contractors following the death of a worker in November 2022. The trial at Bristol Crown Court is expected to last between four and six weeks.

Grenfell recommendation’s first annual report published

The government’s first Annual Report on the implementation of the Grenfell Tower Inquiry recommendations says that 12 recommendations, including bringing government fire safety functions under the control of one department and Secretary of State, have been completed. Over 40 (70%) of the recommendations are also expected to be completed by the end of the year.

Grounds maintenance company fined after employee killed operating ride-on lawnmower

A grounds maintenance company has been fined after an employee was killed while operating a ride-on lawnmower from which a safety-critical roll-over protection system had been removed. An HSE investigation found no suitable site-specific risk assessment had been carried out.
