Legal terms explained: Fitness for purpose

A fitness for purpose obligation imposes a higher duty than an obligation to exercise reasonable skill and care. It is an absolute obligation to achieve a specified result, a breach of which does not require proof of negligence.

Bust firms fined for pipe crush fatality

Fines of £1m have been handed to both RK Civil Engineers and RK District Heating after a worker was crushed and killed by a falling heating pipe at the EON Renewable Energy Plant, Sheffield, in 2015.
